This week’s new Dustinland comic is about those times when your kid wakes you up screaming in the middle of the night. You always run to the rescue, but rescue isn’t always what’s needed…
I’ll give it to my kiddo in this case. He was getting over the flu.
This week’s Dustinland comic is about how as parents, we try to expose our kids to new things and make sure they get out into the world and have a good time, and all the while they battle us over every little step. I’m glad I do it though! In the long run, it all works itself out.

This new Dustinland comic is my take on the first day of school posts that have been dominating my social media feeds lately. Shouldn’t need no explainin… but if you don’t get it, just Google “first day of school chalkboard.”

I literally drew this new Dustinland comic during a playdate my kid had this weekend. My wife was upstairs playing referee while I hid downstairs in the basement scribbling in peace. And the irony is that the kids really did seem to have fun by the end. Despite all the fighting and arguing and name-calling, to them, it was a success. I guess kids just don’t know how to be friends. Not sure adults do either, I guess.

This week’s Dustinland comic is about the cleaning frenzy that goes on before guests arrive. Of course I’m exaggerating a bit, but the general idea is correct. Your day-to-day life at home does not ever live up to the cleanliness that occurs when you host – even just a few friends. There’s always some cleanup in an attempt to generate an image of neatness+. In fact, one of the best things about having people over is that it forces you to clean up. Of course, this can backfire if the hosting leaves the house messier than it was to begin with, due to massive amounts of cooking, eating, and children playing with every toys and art supply they can find. Either way, drinking can help.

This week’s new Dustinland comic is just a quick little zinger, straight from the mouth of my child to your ears and eyes. Ah kids, you know, it’s the honesty that really makes it all so entertaining. I don’t even remember the guy he’s talking about in this comic, and that’s probably a good thing because then I would just feel guilty.
Also, if you notice the size of this comic… very small. Perfect for mobile. We’ll see if people enjoy this bite-sized phone edition more than the usual six-panel rant.

This week’s new Dustinland comic is about me explaining Trump to my son. This conversation never actually happened, since I try to shield him from this horrible world we’re in, but we have had to talk a few times because he hears stuff at school and on the radio when I’m not quick enough to change the station. Basically he knows Trump is a racist liar, but that’s about it. But you know, when you try to explain things to a kid, you really make it clearer for yourself. Laying things out so simply, in basic language, it really helps. Try it sometime! Not actually with a real kid of course, but just imagine yourself doing it. Works for many a complex issue!
PS My hand is healing nicely! Still not perfect, still hurts a bit to draw. But hopefully I’ll be 100% soon and my art will get back to where it was, AKA still shitty but slightly less shitty.
