I know this week’s new Dustinland comic can be considered irresponsible, but I’m not trying to convince anyone to do or not do anything. I’m simply saying, man, it really sucks to have to stress out over politics all the time. It would be so much easier to just have relatively competent non-corrupt people in place running things so the rest of us could go back to our lives. But of course it doesn’t work that way – we must be vigilant, even though it’s boring and stressful and shitty in every way. Fun times.
P.S. I bet money some Trump supporters say “You should go to Mars and take the rest of the libtards with you” or something to that effect. Just more of the boring predictability I’m talking about.

Sorry I missed last week. I had the choice to watch the Super Bowl or draw a comic and I choose Super Bowl. And now I’m also a day late this week. Because of work. Yeah man, life makes cartooning hard. But Trump makes it easy! As per this week’s new Dustinland comic, which is my impression of our social media feeds these days. Pretty shitty. All Trump, all the time. I usually hate the Grammy’s but this year it was nice because at least people were talking about music instead of Trump. I mean, there was plenty of Trump there too but at least not 100% Trump.
Uh… silver lining… at least people are involved now? Maybe that whole burn it down so we can really fix it theory will work after this? That’s the best I can do.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

This week’s Dustinland comic harkens back to the Bush era and the old phrase “the terrorists win.” Back then it was used by Bush and co (including tens of millions of Trump supporters who like to pretend they didn’t vote for Bush) to silence dissent with patriotism. I’m repurposing the phrase and using it to describe what is actually happening, which is the terrorists are getting exactly what they wanted. And yes, I’m not afraid to say Islamic terrorists, because that’s what we’re talking about. Their goal was an has been to destroy the West from within, to spread fear, to use our strengths against us, and it really seems to be working. The U.S., half of Europe, we’ve all been blinded into voting for the biggest assholes who use our fear of terror attacks and Muslim culture in general to grab power and twist laws. So while the common folk debate whether there should be a travel ban to the Mid East or not, Trump and his buddies will be filling their pockets, erasing freedom of the press and making it impossible to vote for a Democrat. So there you have it. Democracy traded for the illusion of safety.

This new Dustinland comic is pretty straight forward so not too much to say here, aside from the fact that I was inspired to write it after reading comments from Trump supporters regarding the Women’s March. It really was amazing how people who didn’t know each other were saying almost identical things in completely different forums and social media platforms. I know there’s a lot of similarity between liberal ideas, but the speed in which the identical response to the Women’s March was shared between Trump fans was really amazing, and sort of scary. For a group that proposes to be about freedom and anti-establishment values, they seem pretty eager to accept and spread any propaganda that reinforces their beliefs and makes them feel better about themselves in the face of evidence and facts that paint them and their man in even the slightest negative light.
Should be a fun four years (or months). Oh well, they can always read last week’s comic for excuses once the S.S. Donald starts taking on water.

This week’s Dustinland comic seems pretty self-explanatory. I just know the excuses are going to start rolling in as the Trump presidency disaster unfolds so it will be fun to get ahead of them now and then we can look back at this strip in a year or two and laugh. Or maybe we’re all really so fucked that we won’t be laughing at all. Hard to tell. Hey, maybe Trump is a secret genius and I will say BOY WAS I WRONG! WHAT A GUY! I would love that, really. I think the odds of that happening are about the same as the odds of my entire house suddenly turning into a 25-ton block of gold but sure, let’s see what happens.
I guess there is one thing I want to speak on — the ending. Isn’t it funny how nobody voted for Bush? We had him for eight years (through illegal elections) and millions of people voted for him twice yet suddenly no one seems proud of that. That’s who I see at Trump rallies. The same people—mostly—who said it was “unpatriotic” to not blindly support Bush through illegal wars and disastrous economic policies meant to benefit the .01% at the expense of the rest of us, now suddenly they’re these angry populist anti-war anti-interventionists. Really it comes down to this: After 9-11 they figured we could bomb our way to safety. That didn’t work, so now we can wall our way to safety.
I went off track there a bit but the point is, no one is willing to take responsibility for the failed Bush presidency, and no one will be willing to take responsibility for the unfolding Trump nightmare that could potentially destroy this country, if the GOP isn’t strong enough or patriotic enough to stop him. That’s really what it’s going to come down to. Will the Paul Ryans and John McCains have the balls to stop Trump as he runs this country as his own personal family bank account / PR machine? We’ll see. I imagine they’d love to boot Trump and insert Pence and then boom, it’s like Bush all over again but with a slicker speaker. Seems like a win for the traditional Republican machine. Well, we’ll see. Fun times! I look forward to the excuses!

This week’s Dustinland comic is about Donald Trump’s cabinet. The comic does not portray the real one, but rather my take on his dream cabinet. But what I’m really trying to say is that Trump seems to be enacting the classic conservative tactic of appointing people who don’t believe in an agency’s stated goal to head that agency. So if there’s an agency dedicated to saving trees, he appoints a guy who works for the lumber industry. That sort of thing. That way he doesn’t have to go through the hard work of actually killing the EPA. He can just make it useless and weak via an oil industry stooge.
This is happening across the board, in the name of the economy, jobs and big business! I think we have to try this every 4-8 years because people forget what happens. This time I’m thinking all we’ll need is two. Two years of Trump and I think people will be just about done. Definitely metaphorically but perhaps literally. Hopefully not though. Hey, hopefully I’m wrong about this whole thing and Trump is the best president ever. Fingers crossed.

This week’s Dustinland sort of took the theme of last week’s comic and combined it with the holidays. I’m not really sure I love how it turned out, but it was my first time actually drawing Trump, believe it or not, and I think that took time away from the writing. But man, that guy has no neck. Who knew? Everyone focuses on the hair and skin color and now chins, but I feel like he really is neckless. I mean, our long line of presidents is not a beauty pageant by any means, so I am not saying it has any effect on his leadership ability to not have a clear definition between head and shoulders in the form of a neck. I’m just saying I looked at a lot of photos to draw the guy and it’s basically just straight lines up from shoulders to head.
