No Thanks — Macy’s Parade 2020

This week’s Dustinland comic tackles the weird 2020 TV-only Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, remixing its balloons with Trump cronies for a whole lot of fun. Or rather, a whole lot of pun.

To be honest, I was really torn about this comic. I had a bunch of ideas for more serious strips about being grateful this year, but for some reason I felt like this was the way to go. A little silliness. I mean really, do we need more seriousness at this point?

But maybe I’ll drop another comic real fast before Turkey Day. We’ll see how much time I can scrounge together.

It Ain’t Over Til It’s Over

This week’s new Dustinland comic is meant to prepare my readers who voted for Biden. Prepare you for a week of hell. Maybe a few months of it. Because Trump will not leave peacefully. His followers won’t either. It is a cult, plain and simple. Not all 70 million who voted for him. But a certain element of it. And these diehards have so embraced dear leader, that they will believe anything he says. And he will rally them — maybe to violence.

So stay focused, people. Put down the bubbly. It’s time to get serious again. And that feeling you had Saturday when people were dancing in the street? Let that inspire you to fight for your right to feel it again January 20th.

Negative Diagnosis

Wanted to get this new Dustinland comic out there quickly before there’s an alien invasion or biblical plague or some other massive insanity that would make whatever I drew two days ago incredibly irrelevant.

And it was hard to have an original take on Trump getting COVID. But after a bit of thought I figured it out. The most interesting—or disturbing—part of this whole thing is that we can’t even all agree whether he even has it or not! That’s how insane life has gotten in this country. Maybe in this world. Who knows anymore. Who knows?

Post Civil War II Map

This week’s new Dustinland comic is not really a comic. It’s a map. A map of what I imagine the US could disintegrate into after another civil war. But not like, a real one. Just a funny one. After a real one, we’d probably just wind up with one country in shambles under a military dictatorship. But this map is way more fun than that.

*Note I put a few jokes in there for music nerds. Couldn’t help it. It’s just my thing.

Naustolgia

This new Dustinland comicis about having nostalgia for the 90s. But the dumb kind of pop culture nostalgia that fills the Buzzfeeds of the web, although I put some of that in there for the funnies, but nostalgia for an era before 9-11, before Trump, before social media… a time where your biggest worries were personal and petty, not global and apocalyptic. And that’s not to say there weren’t awful things happening in the 90s. It’s just that on one hand, we weren’t quite as aware of them, and on the other hand, they didn’t seem to be threatening the entire fabric of our society.

Derision 2020

This week’s new Dustinland comic is about the tough choice ahead of us in the U.S. presidential election. And by tough choice, I mean the decision between perhaps not your ideal candidate in the form of Joe Biden, and Trump, an evil conman dictator autocrat using America’s enemies to dismantle our democracy for his personal financial gain and narcissistic and likely mentally ill ego. You know, it’s a toss up. Vote for a nice guy who means well and is a rational caring human being, or someone who’s never done a thing to help anyone in his entire life, and whose actions could risk the future of life on earth. TOUGH CHOICE PEOPLE!

Let’s All Be Fwiends

This week’s new Dustinland comic was about Trump supporters and how to relate to them, although really it’s just a clever way of mocking them. I find they respond better to this sort of thing. When you get serious with them, they just try to piss you off because that’s what they enjoy most. That’s really their ultimate hope from the Trump presidency: piss off liberals (and keep away the brown people).

But yeah, jokes. It’s sad the best way to respond to people during a Constitutional crisis occurring in the midst of a worldwide environmental catastrophe threatening all life on Earth, but if you have a better idea, let me know.

Divided States

This week’s new Dustinland comic is pretty clear — it’s about how much Americans have come to hate each other. I think we always have, to some degree. The country really never got over the Civil War, which is pretty pathetic, but still, that’s life. But Trump has really stirred things up and made it even worse than it was during Bush or Obama.

So yeah, we all hate each other. Good times!

Also, I recognize this comic could be used as a meme for just about any subject matter, so hopefully it won’t get too Photoshopped.

There Is No Middle

Yes, this week’s new Dustinland comic is about impeachment. I didn’t want to do it, because there’s just so much noise out there and it’s so hard to beat the news cycle to it at this point, but it felt ridiculous to post something trivial in the midst of this crisis. But I do think I have a different take on it.

Is anyone even reading this, by the way? I do this blog and it gets likes every week but I wonder if it’s just essentially other bloggers autoliking my posts when I use similar tags. Maybe WordPress is just one big circle jerk where no one reads anyone else’s stuff but just fake likes their posts to get more people to their own blog. Social media is probably like that too. I mean, I do hear some people interact with each other. It’s happened to me before. Sometimes here. Maybe today!

Bluh

I have been having a tough time lately coming up with cute observational comics as I watch the world burn. That’s what this week’s new Dustinland comic is about. I have a feeling people won’t enjoy it very much, since it’s just depressing and offers little humor or solution. But it’s really just therapy for me — I need to get it out so I can move on.
