This latest Dustinland comic will probably offend some people but oh well. At this point, Dustinland is a non-profit venture. I don’t make money off it, and my livelihood does not depend upon it. So I can do with it whatever I want, and at this point, I feel like venting. Perhaps you agree with me, perhaps you don’t. Either way, it’s hard to argue with this one fact: I hate this election more than any I have ever been witness to. It is awful and depressing, and winning is losing to some degree in either situation. That’s how I feel, and that sucks — for me.
It will probably suck for you too whether you know it or not, and that’s sad. Hey, maybe not. Maybe everything will turn out just fine. I would love that. I would love to be wrong. Because unlike most people these days, I’d rather be happy than right.

Ugh, this week’s comic is such a bummer. And so long. So many words. Why? Why do I do this? Actually, it’s just to get it out of my head, onto paper, and into the world. Then, in a sense, I’m just a little bit freer of it. It doesn’t really make much sense but I think a lot of people view life that way. You know, art is therapy to some degree. So, sorry if you had to sit through a DustinTherapyLand this week, but hey, I have anxiety about some serious issues. What can I do? I probably shouldn’t read so many depressing articles online.
Anyway, here is a picture of a horse.
This week’s Dustinland isn‘t the most joyous holiday celebration, but you know what: I think it’s pretty awesome. And it makes you think of the lyrics to Santa Claus Is Coming To Town in a completely different light. Here they are, with just a teeny bit of editing.
You better watch out. You better not cry. You better not pout. He’s making his list. He’s checking it twice. Gonna find out who’s naughty and nice. He’s sees you when you’re sleeping. He knows when you’re awake. He knows if you’ve been bad or good.
Man, that is pretty damn creepy. Either that or Santa Claus is just a big metaphor for a vengeful God in this song.
Anyway, sorry to depress you with such a holiday downer of a strip, but I think if you can laugh at a situation, you’ll be able to deal with it better. I once read this quote in a really shitty new age book: “I’d rather be a humorous fool than a serious jackass.” So put that in your pipe and smoke it. If you can afford a pipe these days.
I originally intended this week’s Dustinland to be purely something to cheer up depressed single folk. Whether you were just dumped, you’re in a huge drought, you love someone who doesn’t love you, or you’re just feeling down and out about yourself and your future prospects — that lonely, hopeless feeling is something everyone has felt at some point. But then I thought about it some more and didn’t want my strip to come out like some preachy cliché, even though it’s almost impossible to avoid clichés when covering this subject. So I mixed it up a little, especially with that 6th panel, which could strike people the wrong way. In fact, I could see people being mean and just forwarding around the first six panels, just to make people cry. So don’t do that! Because in the end I want this strip to make people laugh. Happy single people, sad single people, people in relationships — everyone. And if it cheers you up a bit, then even better.
