This latest Dustinland comic is inspired by a few recent mysterious bug bites. Of course I instantly jumped to the conclusion that I had bed bugs. I can’t help it. Too paranoid from all those years in NYC. But yeah, the bites went away so I’m probably in the clear. No idea what they were. Fleas maybe? We have lots of wildlife running around our yard and I was doing yard work the day before I got the bites so I may have dragged a few little biters into the house. Did some serious sheet and pillow case washing and now I’m bite free, so who knows.
Man, nature sure does hate us. And for good reason, if you think about it.

This new Dustinland comic is about how I am super paranoid about ticks ever since my kid got a few. So far no Lyme! On any of us. But I know a lot of people who live around here who have gotten it. Also people who got it out at the beach when they hiked around in the dunes. Man, these bugs. Can we get a vaccine or something? I heard they had one but it was shitty or something like that, or maybe the anti-vaccination people ruined it. I dunno. Bugs. I need to get one of those little monkeys that picks bugs off each other. He can live at my house and check us after we come back from the park.

This week’s Dustinland touches on bedbugs, a truly frightening new trend sweeping the country, or at least the east coast. I once thought I had bedbugs after the wife got some odd bites a few nights in a row. We totally freaked out, called some exterminators and wound up bagging up all our clothes. We were totally prepared for the worst. Convinced we were screwed. But then the exterminators came and said we were fine, and the bites went away. Now we think it was just a spider or some other weird annoying bug. But man, for those two or three days we were pretty freaked out, or should I say BUGGED OUT! HEYOOO!!!
But seriously folks, this sucks. I read an article on Gothamist once where people say they saw a bedbug on the subway so now I never feel safe sitting down, even though I still do every day because I have a 45 minute commute. Good times.
