This week’s new Dustinland comic is pretty clear — it’s about how much Americans have come to hate each other. I think we always have, to some degree. The country really never got over the Civil War, which is pretty pathetic, but still, that’s life. But Trump has really stirred things up and made it even worse than it was during Bush or Obama.
So yeah, we all hate each other. Good times!
Also, I recognize this comic could be used as a meme for just about any subject matter, so hopefully it won’t get too Photoshopped.
Yes, this week’s new Dustinland comic is about impeachment. I didn’t want to do it, because there’s just so much noise out there and it’s so hard to beat the news cycle to it at this point, but it felt ridiculous to post something trivial in the midst of this crisis. But I do think I have a different take on it.
Is anyone even reading this, by the way? I do this blog and it gets likes every week but I wonder if it’s just essentially other bloggers autoliking my posts when I use similar tags. Maybe WordPress is just one big circle jerk where no one reads anyone else’s stuff but just fake likes their posts to get more people to their own blog. Social media is probably like that too. I mean, I do hear some people interact with each other. It’s happened to me before. Sometimes here. Maybe today!

This week’s new Dustinland comic is about the mental fortitude required to not lose your mind amidst the madness of life in 2019. Not daily life for most of us, but rather the news cycle. The horrible things we hear happening to other people day in and day out, whether it’s Americans getting mowed down in Walmart or people in third world countries getting blown up on their way to work or any of the other awful things we learn about 24/7. I hear that hope is essential for inner peace, but man, it’s hard right now. Things look grim. I mean, Siberia is on fire right now. We really are super fucked. But I guess hey, soldier on, right?!

I hope people understand this week’s Dustinland comic is satirical. I mean, I do sort of explain it in the first frame, but I am still a bit afraid of dumb dumbs not getting it and going all woke avenger on me. Not that I am against wokeness. I’m just against the combination of wokeness and stupidity, especially when wielded against purveyors of comedy.
Really though, if someone actually could get Trump supporters to actually care about (or even believe in) climate change, that would be nice. Trump would still probably do nothing about it, but at least that would be a start. I think they’ll start believing when something horrible happens to them — drought, fire etc… Just like all the Republicans politicians who were in the pockets of the insurance companies until their summer homes were destroyed by hurricanes and they didn’t get paid due to insurance loopholes. Suddenly they cared!
Meh, it’s too early for a rant (and unfortunately too early to start drinking).

When I was deciding what subject to tackle with this week’s new Dustinland comic, I was struggling. On one hand I had some funny and trivial zingers about closing apparel retailer, The Dress Barn. On the other hand, I have been bogged down by many very deep, dark depressing thoughts lately. How can you make silly jokes when you’re worried about the doom of mankind? Don’t you have some sort of social responsibility to raise awareness of important issues facing us all? But then again, don’t people already know about things like climate change and growing authoritarianism, and don’t they really just need a break from all that, in the form of stupid jokes?
These are the questions I was asking myself, until I decided, why not make this debate the topic of the comic. So you do get your Dress Barn jokes, mixed in with some hints of existential dread. Good times for everyone, yes?

I have been having a tough time lately coming up with cute observational comics as I watch the world burn. That’s what this week’s new Dustinland comic is about. I have a feeling people won’t enjoy it very much, since it’s just depressing and offers little humor or solution. But it’s really just therapy for me — I need to get it out so I can move on.

This week’s new Dustinland comic is the smartest dumbest comic I’ve ever made. Go read it, then come back here and read this.
So, you know, in addition to the ridiculous wordplay, metaphorically speaking there is a lot going on here.
You can consider the notion of impeachment as a tempting, sexy little devil, luring many of us into its grasp, for good or for bad.
You can consider that our nation’s laws have been compromised, and that those who need to defend it most are being blocked from doing their duty.
And just think… what is Putin’s Russia doing to our country? How is he waging war without shooting a bullet?
And most importantly, sick of it… that’s the feeling we should all have from this whole entire period of our country’s history. A national disgrace that should have every good American sick to their stomachs.
