The Real Winners

This week’s Dustinland comic harkens back to the Bush era and the old phrase “the terrorists win.” Back then it was used by Bush and co (including tens of millions of Trump supporters who like to pretend they didn’t vote for Bush) to silence dissent with patriotism. I’m repurposing the phrase and using it to describe what is actually happening, which is the terrorists are getting exactly what they wanted. And yes, I’m not afraid to say Islamic terrorists, because that’s what we’re talking about. Their goal was an has been to destroy the West from within, to spread fear, to use our strengths against us, and it really seems to be working. The U.S., half of Europe, we’ve all been blinded into voting for the biggest assholes who use our fear of terror attacks and Muslim culture in general to grab power and twist laws. So while the common folk debate whether there should be a travel ban to the Mid East or not, Trump and his buddies will be filling their pockets, erasing freedom of the press and making it impossible to vote for a Democrat. So there you have it. Democracy traded for the illusion of safety.

No, half of Europe were never scared. And now we can sit back because any terrorist with an urge to act would do so in America. There’s a huge difference in how we see the terrorism. I just posted on the topic.

    • I’d love to agree with you, but there’s a far right movement growing in half of Europe right now. U.K. France. Italy. Netherlands. Germany. Austria. Even if they’re not the majority, they’re growing in power. It’s a scary time. You northern perfect countries are doing pretty well though so maybe us New Yorkers can come stay with you when the shit goes down.

It was a misunderstanding on my part. I thought you referred to the terrorist activities. But yes, we have far right movements. However there’s a lot to learn from USA right now. I think it might teach people what it could look like. And I sorry it had to go this way. Sweden is always open. You’re welcome! 🙂

  2. YES! Admitted to Sweden at last! I had a bunch of Swedes in my office and I used to always ask them why they came here. They did say Sweden can be cold and dark, but I think those are the only cons.

  3. “We came, we saw, he died.” – Hillary Clinton bragging about her killing of Muammar Gadaffi without trial.

Also, “In early 2010, with President Barack Obama’s approval, Anwar al-Awlaki became the first U.S. citizen to be approved for targeted killing by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). Awlaki was killed in a drone strike in September 2011.” -

Obama also ended the ban on our government’s use of propaganda on the American people – the gov’t can use propaganda on us inside the USA.

And, don’t forget the list of Muslims countries that ban Jews, Americans, Israeli passport holders, or anyone with evidence of having travel to Israel!

    • First, you seem to be assuming I am only talking about the Muslim ban. I am not — I am subtly referring to a much wider array of issues (in particular, voting rights), many of which will have a much greater and more detrimental effect on our Democracy. Terrorism is the smoke screen that allows ALL politicians to crack down on these liberties, and Trump is clearly taking it to a new level.

Second, your defense of Trump seems to be attacking Obama, Hillary and other countries, and that is merely a deflection from the topic at hand.

    • Hey genius, Gadaffi was killed by his own people. Hillary Clinton was bragging in that clip about the killing of Osama bin Laden. You know, the guy who masterminded the 9/11 attacks. Or do you think killing him was a mistake too?

  4. What I find most annoying about this situation is that Trump wants to bar refugees from the Middle East, i.e. the part of the world where we fucked things up royally. The U.S. now apparently will leave it to Germany and the rest of Europe to deal with the rtefugee crisis that we largely created in the first place.

    • Thanks for saying that – I have a whole strip in mind dedicated to this idea. A lot of people don’t want to hear it though. That was the past, right? Slavery, over. Not our problem. Decades of imperialism from Europe and the US destroying nations and cultures? Not our problem. Oops. We screwed up your countries. Sorry not sorry. You deal with it.
