Explaining the concept of death to little kids is interesting. As I allude in this week’s Dustinland comic, kids don’t really seem to grasp it. Or at least they don’t get it when they haven’t been exposed to it. My son seems to have a trivial view on the matter. He gets what it means, but he clearly doesn’t understand that death is a pretty big deal. But I think that’s a good thing. I’m in no rush to have my little guy well aware of life’s many harsh realities. He’s still young and naive and the world is a fun and exciting place. He has plenty of time to get bummed out over death and taxes and all sorts of inevitable miseries. For now, it’s play time.
