This week’s Dustinland comic didn’t start out as a comic about Mother’s Day. At first it was just the usual: Me complaining about something. In this case, how kids hate all the things adults love most, namely eating and sleeping. But then as I moved along, I made the realization I mention in the final frame, and, well, let me say it again: Happy Mother’s Day to all you moms and grandmas out there!
I myself will attempt to enjoy Mother’s Day today. I say attempt because I have a two-year-old. He does not know there is such a thing as Mother’s Day, so he will most likley unintentionally highjack the day unless we can figure out how to cater to his every whim while still doing what my wife wants to do. It is a beautiful day out at least (here in NYC) so that’s a good start.
But yeah, really, moms are awesome. For me it took having my own child to realize how amazing moms are. And dads too really. Not just what they sacrifice for you, what they do to make you who you are, but the way they love you. It’s indescribable. Especially the love a mother has for her child, as opposed to how a dad loves his kid. Don’t get me wrong, us dads love the hell out of our kids (at least most of us do, but I’ll save that for another comic), but motherly love… it’s something special. Just watching how it can make my wife’s entire day if my son has a good meal for dinner instead of just eating a cheese stick and four grapes. For me, a dad, I’m like, eh, he’ll eat if he’s hungry. For her… well, it’s a mom thing. And it’s funny, but it’s also beautiful.
