Site Redesign

So I redesigned the site this weekend. I think it looks a bit sleeker and cooler, and I’m pretty positive it’s more functional. I’m also planning on setting up a “donate” feature for those of you who like my comics so much you just want to give me money even though you don’t have to. That should be coming soon, and I know you’re all really thrilled about that. The Dustinland archives haven’t been updated yet either, and if the redesign is well-received I’ll start that miserable tedious project soon as well. Now for the biggest change:

From now on Birdy will be updated three times a week, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Still three comics a week, just spread out.

Why redesign the site? Well, for one, I have been wanting to do so for a long time, way more than a year. For two, I have been looking at some more successful webcomic sites (yes, I know, more successful than Dustinland? How is that possible?) and taking notes as to what seem to work.

So, what do you think?

I remember a time when websites didn’t need to be updated. And Birdy came in threes on one day. Not once three days. I remember. I’ll never forget.

  2. I think it looks great. Good work!

  3. You really should put this sucka on some type of a content management system. Seriously.

  4. You mean like php stuff so I can update the site easier, or some sort of search engine so people can dig through the archives?

  5. Much more usable. I’d move the book mark button to the right hand side by all the navigation. It looks weird between the forward and back buttons.

I like the navigation where it is, but I can tell you that an IA would say it should be on the right, not on the left. (Which might make sense if you are ever planning on putting a banner or something on that other side.

  6. Funny, I was actually playing around with doing just that with the share button. That is also an interesting idea about the nav placement, although I really do like it on the right for the homepage, so I don’t know if it would be worth changing it. Plus I don’t see myself using vertical banners since the comics are already pretty wide.
