Check out my comic in the latest issue of MAD Magazine: issue #500! Clearly their standards for contributors has been drastically lowered.

Whiskers on the Rocks

May 25, 2009 · 5 Comments

I really love this week’s Dustinland. It’s one of my favorites in a long time. I think it’s going to be a love hate thing. Whenever I really weird out, that’s what happens. But who knows, maybe everyone will love it. Or hate it. When you create something, whatever it is, you usually can’t tell if it’s going to go over well. I really do love this one though. It’s definitely pushing it. Maybe I’ve been watching too much Tim and Eric, I don’t know.

Interesting tidbit (or useless crumb): the comic originally was just the first 6 panels, but then I was inspired to extend it. It got a lot weirder, as you can see. I did watch Synecdoche last night, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Going Grey

May 18, 2009 · 5 Comments

This week’s Dustinland might surprise some people who know me in real life. Most people think I’m barely old enough to drive. However, I am definitely a grown up. I can’t even pretend not to be anymore. Now, my wife thinks she has found a grey hair or two on me. I think they are clearly blonde. You might read this week’s comic and assume that I realize they are actually grey but just want to believe they are blonde, but no, they are blonde. Blonde and beautiful. Hey, my beard hairs change color in the sun, why not my head hairs? Think about it.

And think about this: some people write “grey” and some people write “gray.” I think I even did it both ways in the comic. “Grey” is better though. More regal.

Get The Point aka Girls With Pointy Shoes

May 11, 2009 · 4 Comments

Oh man, I can feel the hate mail brewing on this one. But come on ladies, can’t you just take a joke? And anyway, my wife came up with the theory behind the comic, so it’s not like it’s a chauvinist thing. Plus, I’m sure it’s not 100% true. Maybe, like, 95%? Either way, even if it was 99.9% true, I am pretty sure that you, if you are a lady who wears pointy shoes, are the one exception to the rule, for why else would you be reading Dustinland?

High Five!

Either this new strip is genius or everyone will hate it.

Or, more likely, no one will care, for the internet is an endless void of unseen or forgotten content.

Ask An Asian

May 4, 2009 · 6 Comments

I’ve been wanting to tackle this strip for a while but the last time I asked an Asian this question, they didn’t have much to say one way or another. This time, well, obviously my friend had a lot to say. I know it’s probably a bit of a contentious issue with some people, and I wanted to get some other opinions on the matter, but the problem is that I didn’t. Hey, come on, it’s not called “Ask A Bunch Of Asians.” That would take way longer to draw.

But anyway, I do know a ton of white dudes with Asian girl fetishes. It seems like once they hook up with one, they get addicted. Several dudes have told me it’s because Asian girls are really loud in bed. I would have put that in the comic but that will have to wait until “Ask A White Guy.”

One interesting thing about this subject is that it really reminds me of when you ask a black woman what she thinks about black men dating white women. You’ve got the same sorta “they’re stealing our men” thing. In fact, I’ve even heard the same thing from Jewish women complaining about how many Jewish men are marrying non-Jews.

One final note: I think this comic should be really popular since there are a lot of Asians out there and they are mostly pretty good with computers.
